Why I Choose to feed Gemma Goat’s Milk + the Brand I Love!

Kabrita

I first began researching baby formulas, foods, and snacks before Gemma even entered this world and I was extremely disappointed in the extensive ingredient lists of hidden chemicals. How is corn syrup, preservatives, soy lecithin, faux iron, industrial vegetable oils, etc. okay to feed your infant?! The answer is, it’s not okay...at all. These horrible ingredients are the culprit of many health issues from an early age (see chart below). As a mother, it’s my responsibility to nourish my baby with the best possible milk, foods, snacks, etc. to ensure she stays healthy and growing!

I tried breastfeeding immediately in the hospital but found it so painful, I couldn’t proceed. The nurse offered to supplement some formula which I hesitantly accepted. It was the Similac brand and although they had an “organic” option, the ingredients were still extensive and contained almost every ingredient I listed above. Gemma immediately broke out in hives and the nurse tried to convince me that she was too young to be experiencing an allergic reaction. She was wrong and my baby was rejecting whatever was in that formula. So, I sucked it up and breastfed for the remainder of our stay. This experience made me realize how important her nutrition is and I made a promise to choose only the best products with an extensive checklist on my end.

When Gemma was about 4  months old, our pediatrician suggested I start adding some baby cereal into her diet. Being a first time mom, I had no idea what baby cereal was. I literally drove to our local Whole Foods and stood in the cereal aisle, looking at each ingredient on the most basic cereal boxes. I thought I would add a small amount to her formula and it would somehow thicken up and fill her up more? Nobody can judge me for this...you don’t get a feeding guide when you leave the hospital. I finally made my way to the baby aisle… which is probably where I should have started... and picked up a bag of the Kabrita porridge. I was immediately sold when I read the clean and simple ingredients. There were no big words I couldn’t pronounce or added sugars anywhere. They also surpassed the “organic” stamp and are EU certified. This means that food safety standards for products sold in the European Union are stricter than those imposed by the F.D.A.

When I introduced Kabrita’s Goat Milk Porridge, she immediately LOVED it! She was literally opening her mouth after every bite asking for more! It made me so happy that she was enjoying her first foods and that they were agreeing with her belly. To this day, I feed her the porridge 2-3 times a week. It was a great starting point and I call it the blank slate of first foods because I was able to add fruits, veggies and even get creative and make pancakes with it (recipe below). At around 6 months, I introduced the cheese puffs which she also loved. They are also the perfect size for babies to begin holding + feeding themselves.

Why Goat’s Milk over Cow’s Milk?

  • It’s easier to digest!

  • Goat milk contains less alpha S1 casein than cow’s milk – this leads to smaller and softer curds formed in the tummy.

  • Goat milk naturally contains more prebiotics than cow’s milk.

  • It tastes better and is an excellent source of protein, calcium and selenium!

How I use Kabrita products:

  • I simply mix the Goat Milk Porridge with water and add fresh chopped fruits.

  • I make mini pancakes for breakfast! 1 banana + 1 egg + 2 tbsp Goat Milk Porridge. Mix it all together. Heat a tsp of coconut oil on a small skillet and make mini pancakes!

  • Gemma loves the snack puffs mid-day!

  • Next month (when she turns 1!), I’ll be introducing the toddler formula.

You can try Kabrita’s Goat Milk foods for FREE! I love when brands share offers like this because it really means they stand by their products. This kit includes the porridge, snack puffs and the toddler formula. Hope you (and your babe) love it as much as we do! Xx
