Insta-Fit Weekend: Miami

Miami has always been my sweet escape. A quick flight from NYC and a place that I hold so many memories and have family and friends that I don't get to see too often. Needless to say, it's definitely my happy place. The weather is (almost) always perfect, the beaches are clean and serene and most importantly- the food and shopping are amazing!

 

As you all may know from my Instagram feed and countless stories, I spent a long weekend in Miami with Marlie from @kale_and_krunches and Jordana from @ihartnutrition, who are both from Toronto, for an Insta-Fit weekend. We took some challenging fitness classes, shared healthy (and some no so healthy) meals, and inspired each other in so many ways!

 

I met Marlie through nutrition school where we became each others accountability partners and grew a friendship, which now makes me wish that we didn't live a plane ticket away! Jordana and I became acquainted through mutual Instagram friends, and actually met for the first time face-to-face during our Insta-Fit weekend. Some people may think it's weird to vacation with someone you met on none other than a social media platform, but we spend so much time on our phones and on Instagram, that we felt as though we've already known each other!

 

 

The weekend began on a Thursday morning when Marlie and I both arrived and instantly headed to Whole Foods to stock up on a few healthy goodies- which turned into more of a food haul. Our cart was overflowing with some of our favorite "healthy" snacks and plenty of Rose- in fact the women at checkout thought that we were staying for a full week! At home, I usually do my food shopping alone, so it was a lot of fun to do it with a fellow health coach and blogger and to see the different food combinations, tips and tricks that I normally wouldn't think of on my own.

 

 

We had our first workout on Friday morning at SoBe Kick, a spacious studio in South Beach where we definitely got our asses kicked! The 45-minute class was split into half floor exercises using jump ropes and free weights and the other half on the boxing bag. I personally love boxing and find it to be a great stress reliever, so it was an amazing start to our weekend! We also wore the cutest LilyBod outfits which absorbed all of our sweat and held up great after class! I'm wearing the Ivy Bra and the Skylar- Ultra Cloud leggings. 

 

 

With our excessive amount of food from our Whole Foods trip, we made a quick and healthy breakfast at the condo. We had organic coffee with the best collagen from Vital Proteins, scrambled eggs with a side of mixed fruits and GG's crackers topped with avocado and lox.

 

 

The forecast ended up being rainy that day, so we stayed in and (obviously) baked something delicious! We made Simple Mills banana bread muffins, as instructed on the box with a Siggi's Greek yogurt almond butter frosting and sprinkled some Purely Elizabeth granola on top! They were so good that I am still craving another one!

 

Recipe for the frosting:

  • 1 container of full fat greek yogurt

  • 3 tbsp almond butter- you can also use another nut butter of choice

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

 

 

On Saturday morning, we all headed to a spin class at Flywheel Sports. I personally use spinning as my choice of cardio because running is slightly painful for me. I have been to the North Miami Beach location a few time before, but I was excited to try out a new instructor, and Marie was great! We all wore really fun outfits by Terez, which were so soft and comfortable! We also had a unique opportunity to takeover the Terez Instagram and share our goofy personalities with their audience, which was so much fun! After our spin class, we headed over to Miami Juice for a colorful and delicious brunch with my family, who was also there for the weekend from New York- celebrating my mom's birthday. It's been a while since my immediate family has all been away together, so it was a nice treat!

 

 

Sunday was our last full day in the sunshine state, and we started it at Exhale Bal Harbour for a morning yoga class. I have given yoga quite a few tries and honestly have never really connected to it, until I took this class. It must have been the stunning water views and palm trees because I left the studio feeling very zen! We were also the trio matching in our K-DEER outfits, which caught everyone's attention. The fun colors were perfect for Miami! The Ritz Carlton was extrmely generous and treated us to a private cabana (pinch me!) with some fruit and champagne. We spent the day lounging and relaxing in and out of the sun, until we headed to the beach for some sand in our toes. I'm wearing a bikini by Agent Provocateur, similar colors in the style here and here!

 

 It was time to go home on Monday morning, but our Insta-Fit weekend was a success! We grew our friendships, learned so much and laughed all weekend! It was truly amazing and we're already planning our next weekend in NYC- follow along!!
